Donna asks…

Can anyone point an Internet marketing newbie in the right direction?

I am a total Internet marketing newbie and I feel extremely overwhelmed. I quit my job after I had my son 5 months ago and my husband just got his hours cut back at work, so we need the extra money. I have read in some forums that affiliate marketing can be a great work at home job that I can do part-time and make good money. So, can someone help this newbie out?

Tom answers:

I am also a work at home mom, but I have to tell you that affiliate marketing is just not a job. A telemarketer is a job. Internet marketing is a business and you must work hard at your business to make it successful. A lot of people have the misconception that they can, through up a website, add some affiliate links to it and make some good income.

On the contrary, you have to work hard at promoting your site and getting traffic and sales. This is why it is called marketing. You have to market it and market it some more. I don’t want you to get the wrong idea about affiliate marketing and get discouraged after a month or two by not seeing any income come in (which will most likely happen).

When I first starting affiliate marketing from home 3 years ago, I was putting in about 9-10 hour days to get my sites started, do my research, and market my sites to death. I only started to see regular traffic and money come in after about 3-4 months and even then it was only a couple hundred dollars and I had about 5 sites up.

But, after about a year, I was making over $4500 a month and I was only working about 20 hours a week. In the beginning, you really have to work and then as you get your sites more established, you can set things to autopilot and work much less. Now I have 2 kids and make almost 6 figures a year and work about 20-25 hours a week when my kids are sleeping.

I have about 60 niche websites and I am in the process of making 5 more. The sites that are the oldest are the ones that make the most money, with a few exceptions. You will have sites that no matter what you do may just not see conversions or make you the money that you want no matter how much you put into them. On the other hand, you may have sites that do a lot better than you ever thought they would and you only put in a minimal amount of time on them.

For an Internet marketing newbie like yourself, I recommend that you check out www.mattbacak.com. Even though I have been doing this for 3 years I still subscribe to his Internet Marketing Dirt newsletter and learn new things from it. The Internet is always changing and you must adapt your strategies if you want to really succeed. I wish you all the luck with your endeavor and don’t give up!

What is PPV marketing?

What is PPV marketing?

Article by Angela Chase

We all know what pay-per-view (PPV) cable is, where we can watch movies or events on a Pay-Per-View channel and only pay for the one show we watch, not a monthly charge as you would find for other channels such as HBO or Showtime. So what is PPV marketing?

Pay-per-view marketing is a form of Internet advertising (also known as CPV or cost per view) where ads are fun and charged per impression or every time the ad is shown on a website, the advertiser is charged for the ad being shown. With pay-per-click, the advertiser is charged each time the ad is actually clicked on. PPV ads are charged every time they are viewed, even if the consumer does not actually read the ad.

For this reason, PPV ads are less expensive than PPC. For example, if you are running a PPC ad on Google, you may be paying or more. I have seen PPC ads as high as + per click. PPV ads can be a few cents per view and some even less than a penny. PPV is much lower, which has the potential for being more cost effective, but you want to track effectiveness to be sure. If you are new to PPV, be sure you understand how it works and develop a budget with tracking!

TRACKING

Tracking, you want to ensure you are tracking your advertising dollars. By tracking your advertising or post-testing, you will know what your ROI or return on investment is. I will give you a very short example, but for more information on ROI, please Google the acronym for hundreds of articles that will go into great detail. For now, here is a simple example:

You are running two different ads and after 30 days you test their effectiveness. Ad #1 cost you 0 and you received 20 leads and 2 sales at 5 each. Ad #2 cost you 0 you received 65 leads and 6 sales at 5 each. Your ROI is (investment/return)*100=ROI. Ad #1 ROI is 15.15 and ad #2 ROI is .84. Based on those calculations, ad #2 cost you more, but your ROI is higher and therefore more successful.

So let’s say you run two ads, one on a PPC on one on a PPV: If your PPC is per click, a PPV ad at $ .02 per view maybe a more cost effective solution. Again, set your budget for both and test!KEYWORDSJust as PPC ads are based upon keywords being searched by their target markets, so are PPV ads. If a person is looking to purchase a home in Santa Cruz, CA and they type in homes for sale Santa Cruz, paid and organic ads will appear based on the keywords homes for sale and Santa Cruz. A Realtor in the area sets up an ad campaign on Google for those key words and based upon how they set their campaign up, they are either charged every time the ad is shown, or every time the consumer actually clicks on the ad.Just as you track your ad campaigns, you will want to track your keywords as well. Some keywords cost more than others. One excellent way to find the best keywords for your target market, how much competition they have along with the average cost is to check your keywords through Google’s Keyword Search Tool.

When using Google’s Keyword Search Tool, you will want to sign into your Google account. Using the free version does not give you as much useful information including average cost.

CONCLUSION

PPC and PPV are very similar and with any advertising campaign should be tested and tracked for their return on investment and effectiveness. Prior to starting any ad campaign, the advertiser must understand what keywords their target market is searching for and how much the current rate is for the keywords.

By knowing what keywords are relevant to the target market, how much the click or view will cost them, a budget can be created to ensure the campaign can be tested for anticipated return-on-investment.

Your Questions About Ppc Marketing

Ken asks…

I am stuck on by what method to go about piecing together email marketing lists. Thanks…?

I have inspected many things from traffic to blogs to ppc. I am also new to joining. I am so frustrated! Can someone please give some knowledge on the business and tell me what I need to do to get going? No one opts in at my site and I feel like no matter what I try and put up to appeal to them nothing works. Please DO NOT SPAM ME!.

Tom answers:

You need to offer the visitor something of value, like a free e-book, video or report in exchange for their opt-in subscription.

Many people have this free content on the next page after the visitor opt-in. However, people may give you fake info just to get the free content without subscribing with a real e-mail.

Awebber is an e-mail marketing system that allows you manage your opt-in subscribers, verify their e-mail address and automatically sends them your free e-book after they confirm.

Its the best way to stay on the up and up with e-mail marketing. All the pros use them!

George asks…

How fast can files be distributed over the internet?

I was just curious, once I put up a file to be shared on the internet, how fast can it get shared and on average how many people can access it if the file is encouraged to be shared and doesn’t break any copyright law? For instance, if I wanted to put an MP3 of my band up on the web, how many people can I expect to download it within a period of a day, or a week?

What about for larger files? Like, say, I want to upload an hour long video to be shared freely on the internet? How many people would be able to share it within the span of a day, week, and month if I was using a program like Bittorrent?

I know some of these answers also depend on visibility, so what are the answers for files with no marketing other than word of mouth and files that are marketed using website ads, PPC advertising, etc.? Kind-of like best and worst case scenereo in terms of visibility of the file?

Also, could you list resources and statistics of file distribution and person-to-person file sharing?

Tom answers:

Well since you have your own band you can try this.
There is a site called IUMA. It is for unsigned bands and artists wishing to distribute their music freely with public, put your mp3 or video on there and maybe it can answer some of these questions for you.

Sandra asks…

Would a BBA in Finance and Marketing get me a better job than a BBA in Economics and Finance?

Or Economics and Marketing? Though I feel like I wouldn’t know how the insides and out of a business, just the outsides if I did Economics.

Then I really like SEO, PPC, Web Master type Marketing jobs. Like an SEO Analyst. I’ve seen Marketing certifications (cost like 2.5k dolalrs though) and I am interested in those, but I obviously can’t major in 3 things.

I’d like to know the 2 best combinations that’d make me a well rounded person and have multiple job opportunities. THANKS!

Tom answers:

I tihnk marketing is least respected out of Finance and Economics.

I think accounting would be best cuz its in demand but I would say Finance then economics

Charles asks…

How can I get FREE phone support with Yahoo! Search Marketing?

I’m having a lot of problems with Yahoo/Overture Search Marketing. I’m trying to find ways to get support from them but it seems like I actually have to pay to get answers to my questions. They charge me $12 on 2 clicks on my campaign for which it says “Null Term”. What is a null term and it won’t even tell me what the term was. Plus they take money out of my account without my knowledge within a 3 hour time. There’s other problems I’m having but I’ll just leave it at that for now. I’m getting really frustrated with their PPC services.

Tom answers:

There is a learning curve to Yahoo Search Marketing and Pay Per Click in general. Until you get answers, you may want to pause the campaign. This way you won’t accrue additional costs while figuring out where they are coming from. We specialize in PPC Campaign Management and would be glad to troubleshoot this for you. 215-966-1462 http://www.jmbinteractive.com/a-b-c-web-marketing.htm

Your Questions About Affiliate Marketing Scams

Jenny asks…

What’s the deal on Anthony Morrison Affiliate Marketing? Is this just another scam? Anyone take his courses?

Tom answers:

This kid is a total scam king, He charges about 4000 bucks to give you a web page and a few tips on how to make money online. Everything sounds so pretty an easy but its not. What you are basically selling are credit cards. You will get paid for approval according to them and not get cheated. He is like the middle man between the credit card companies and you. He tells you that the best way to advertise your webpage is google adwords which is totally false. He tells you that you will only have to pay about 5 to 25 cents per clic and that you will see crazy amounts of money coming withing the next few weeks. Totally false, google charges about $5.00+ per click or sometimes more if you want to be in the 1st page for this keyword and related keywords. There is also no way to see if you are making any sales right away because since they are the middle man they can intercept them and take weeks for them to post them in your account so forget about twitching your marketing campaigns if you see they are not working because you cant see anything . If you make money or not is not important to them because most people dont. As long as you sign the contract you are doomed. I remember the guy dave gilmore or whatever his name is: “Anthony made $100,000 by only spending $200 in advertising with Google”. Not true

Maria asks…

How to do affiliate marketing for really unfamilliar beginners.?

Hello everyone! I am a 19 year old female interested in affiliate marketing. Now, I am completely new to this and don’t know much about it at all and I do not have a website or a blog. I have so much spare time on my hands so I figured why not use it to make extra income from the internet! I was thinking of using Ebay to sell affiliate products but not sure if this is allowed. I really don’t know where to start or what I need to have in order to get started, but I do know there are a few scams out there. I was hoping any affiliate marketers or anyone with experience could help me out. Thanks guys!

Tom answers:

Here is a very basic plan to get started…

1. Pick a product. Choose a physical product from commission junction, clickbank, or an independent affiliate program from a directory like the one below.

2. Setup either a domain with the product name, or a free blog at wordpress.com or blogger.com to have something to link to. You can just buy a domain name with your own hosting and redirect to the affiliate product with your link. Write 1 ‘presell’ page that explains the benefits of the product with multiple buttons/links with your affiliate link to the product home page.

3. Write articles with your product keywords in the titles and also listed 3-5 times throughout each aritcle and point the links to your domain or blog. For a beginner article marketing works well. So write 3-5 articles about the product, an overview if your not familiar with the product in a review style format. Submit to the major article directories like ezinearticles, goarticles, articlesbase, squidoo, and hubpages and place links at the bottom of the article with a call to action to your domain or blog.

4. Signup at some social bookmarking sites and then social bookmark your articles AND your blog.

5. Repeat the above steps with another product

Do that on a consistent basis and you’ll be making money in no time. Good luck.

Richard asks…

Can people really make a living as an Affiliate marketer?

I have seen dozens of programs being sold on the internet that claim they will show you how to make a six figure income from affiliate marketing. Are any of these programs for real, and if so which ones? Or, are they all scams that make money by selling their product to lazy, gullible people who think they can make money while they sit at home and do nothing?

Tom answers:

Yes, some people do but only people who are willing to put a great deal of time into it and genuine effort. There are a lot of scams out there but there are also some legitimate ones. SFI is a very legit program and is even listed with the Better Business Bureau. However, with them, you only make residual income as an EA…For more info on them go to below website

David asks…

Wealthy Affiliate and internet affiliate marketing. is it worth it?

Can you actually make any money from it? Is the money that you pay for Wealthy Affiliate worth it? Are you an Affilate marketer, if so do you make any kind of decent income from it? If you have any experience please share… i don’t want anyone telling me WA is a scam, unless you joined it and know for sure, i am a new member and i don’t think it is a scam, i think you just need to invest alot of time and effort into it. What do you think?

Tom answers:

I’m an affiliate marketer and I make about $100 per day, it is ok money. There are some guys out there that make $1000 per day from affiliate marketing. It just requires a lot of time and patience. What is hard is getting your website to that #1 spot on the Google search. But once you do, you hit the jackpot. Here are some examples of my websites that are just blogs.

http://traffic–siphon.blogspot.com/

As you can see, you dont even need to pay for a real website, you can just use free websites such as Blogger to promote your product. There are a lot of free training videos out there on affiliate marketing, I would search for them frist before doing Wealthy Affiliate.

Thomas asks…

i need help with affiliate/internet marketing!?

okay, so i’m 20 years old and struggling SO bad with money. I’m not currently in school because i have been undecided. Well about 6 months ago i ran into all the scams and schemes to making money online. i bought two programs that were complete crap. With more money going down the drain i felt extremely discouraged by the idea of making money over the internet. But i know that this is what i want to do, and if others are doing it..why can’t i? So my question is, does anyone know anywhere that can teach me the RIGHT WAY to make money online through affiliate marketing without wasting money? I wish i could go to classes to learn this stuff and know that i am doing it right, but the only classes i found costs money & during these times i have to save up just to reach 100 dollars. I’m a fast learner, as long as i know i’m learning the right way and not just buying someone elses program that they are using to put money in their pocket. I also wish i could partner up with someone who knows what they are doing, But paying for someones time in this business is impossible on my budget. anyways, any information would help. THANKS!

Tom answers:

Hey, I can feel your pain. 22 years old, full time student, have to do a lot of traveling. I have been researching the whole online job for years now. Learn from my experience Please!
I have been working with eBay and Amazon for years now but the economy is really hurting my business.
There are legit ways to make money online. It has taken me a lot of research to find this out. I have been doing the online ‘surveys’ for a couple years now. You just have to be organized and cancel something if its a trial.
Other than the surveys I have only found one opportunity that worked for me. I actually understand the whole process now of how to make money online. Please feel free to check out the links I will include. Good luck and always do your research!!
