Your Questions About Cpa Marketing

Susan asks…

What is an incent publisher?

In regards to CPA affiliate marketing, what is an incent publisher?

Tom answers:

Typically a middleman offering a bribe to sign up for some product trial, etc.

I assume the win a free iPad offers and their list of signup requirements would be an incentive program.

Many merchants don’t allow incentives to be used to recruit prospects, since they are often not really interested in the product.

Maria asks…

Why does it seem like everybody is getting an accounting degree?

and all are gonna try to get a cpa?
Doesn’t this indicate a flood of accountants on the market?
Should I find a diff. career path?

Tom answers:

Accounting is one of the few fields that seems to be paying off right now. It will get glutted, though, if this rush keeps up. I wouldn’t go into Accounting unless I truly felt it was the right path for me. Everything gets glutted eventually; I have even heard that New Grad nurses are having a hard time getting jobs. Everybody rushed into Nursing School because it was a sure job! Find out what is right for you, because this Great Recession won’t last forever.

Joseph asks…

Question for accounting people, or CPA’s….?

For expenses incurred for trade shows that our bath product company will have a booth at – would it be best to expense it as a marketing expense – or put it as a cost of sales? Any accounting people, please advise..l..

Tom answers:

You should classify it as a marketing expense. “Cost of sales” refers to the costs directly associated with the sales made during a period, for example the raw materials and labor used in the products actually sold. Trade show expenses, like most marketing expenditures, are only indirectly related to sales, and furthermore their affects — if any — can continue across several periods.

Hope this helps.

Easiest and surest way to become a millionaire?

Hi I’m 23 years old and am attending college to pursue either an accounting degree & CPA or an MBA.

Is that the surest and easiest way to eventually make $100k+ a year?

If not, what should I do? It’s hard to invest right now with so many markets still shaky.

Tom answers:

Being a CPA or getting your MBA are goot ways to get good jobs. However, don’t forget that the sciences (engineers to be exact), have offer good opportunities as well. Then, work to build your career, saving 25% of what you make in quality mutual funds (15% into retirement, 10% into just plain savings). With time, this will almost assuredly turn you into a millionaire. Hard? Yes! But it will get you where you want to go.

Laura asks…

What are some careers where you can rent your own office space, be your own boss, have clients, etc.?

I’m interested in making a career change and would like to open up my own office in the area. I’ve thought about some different careers that allow you to be your own boss, but I think there may be others that haven’t come to mind.

Right now, I work in marketing and public relations (think editorial/copywriting) for a small organization in a somewhat rural area and I’m ready to branch out on my own. I know I can’t open up a proofreading shop (haha!), so I think I’ll need to do a complete 180 and start fresh — something I’m actually looking forward to doing.

I love meeting with people and getting a sense of responsibility for providing them with a useful or helpful service. I’m very willing to go back to school to achieve my new goal. Here’s what I’ve come up with. Can you add to it?
* CPA
* Attorney
* Marriage & Family Counselor
* Physical Therapist
* Massage Therapist

Tom answers:

You should pick something that interests you and there is a need in your area. Maybe look into being a personal shopper, wedding planner, interior designer. If you go back to school maybe private investigator or optometrist. You may want to look into becoming a virtual assistant. “A Virtual Assistant (VA) is an independent entrepreneur providing administrative, creative and/or technical services. Utilizing advanced technological modes of communication and data delivery, a professional VA assists clients in his/her area of expertise from his/her own office on a contractual basis.”(http://www.ivaa.org/). I have seen where virtual assistants “lend out” their services to companies that put them on retainer.
